Summary of May Top Management Night

Date of Event: May 10th, 2016
Location: Harry's Savoy Grill, Wilmington, DE

Speaker: Dr. Robyn Odegaard of Champion Development Performance, LLC

Top Management Night for 2016 was attended by over 70 professionals, of which approximately 20 were the manager or influential professional leader brought for an attendee brought as their guest compliments of the Brandywine Valley Chapter.

The event kicked-off with a cocktail hour with passed hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar during which guests networked with each other and had the opportunity to visit information stations about the offerings of APICS and the local chapter.

The formal program started with our President, Janice Gullo, giving a brief overview of the many benefits available to members of the chapter including education, professional development, and networking, and then presented the following awards:

Company of the Year: AstraZeneca
Instructor of the Year: Janice Gullo
Member of the Year: Deborah Waltemeyer

Following dinner, our speaker talked about techniques for reducing drama and keeping conflict from escalating to try to create a win-win environment. Her talk referenced content from her books "STOP THE DRAMA! - THE BOOK" and "The Ultimate Guide to Handling Every Disagreement Every Time." She highlighted concepts such as the point of productive conflict being to resolve an issue, not to win an argument. She stressed the importance of knowing what you want to talk about when resolving a conflict, and focusing on "your story" (I expect X) instead of telling someone’s story for them (You did Y). After the event, Dr. Robyn was available for book signings.

This event concluded our 2015/2016 series of monthly Professional Development Meetings. We’ll begin our 2016/2017 series in September. More details about next year’s programs will be available on our website in starting in August.
