Topic: Using Six Sigma to Help Village Life in Liberia, Africa

Speaker: John Lafferty, from Light of Marnie

Details:   Each year, the Brandywine Valley APICS Chapter sponsors a Professional Development Meeting that is geared to students and their interests…..not only in Supply Chain but in other topics as well. Widener University believes in developing globally engaged citizens and sponsors student programs around the world to aid humanitarian and environmental causes.   We are pleased to offer this program on the campus of Widener University, one of our Chapters’ sponsored universities.

John Lafferty is talking this month on the Six Sigma DMAIC Methodology (Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control) which was used in a remote village in Liberia, West Africa. Mr. Lafferty is a director of the Light of Marnie which is a non-profit organization (501c3) which supports schooling in 3rd world countries. John will discuss that when he went to Liberia several years ago prior to the Ebola Outbreak, he took a village of Liberian people through the DMAIC process to help them make their village better appealing to attract outside support from America and Europe. John was astounded by how well the Liberian community received the DMAIC methodology and put theory into practice. Before and after photos will be shared as well as the tools which were used and the outcomes which were achieved using this power methodology within a 3rd world country community. This is an opportunity which we may all witness on how we can help sustain life with system influences around the world.

The Light of Marnie is a philanthropic organization that funds humanitarian programs in the United States and abroad.  http://lightofmarnie.org/
