Summary of March PDM

Speaker: Dr. Richard Goeke

Our March PDM was attended by 51 folks, including 16 students from the University of Delaware.

The program featured the team from UD who competed in the APICS regional Student Case Competition. The team did very well and summarized their efforts for the group. Many thanks to our VP-Student Activities, Lori Eagle, who organized and accompanied the students to Pittsburgh for the event. The faculty advisor at UD is Dr. Christine Kydd, who also accompanied the students to this event and is integral to the APICS Student Chapter at UD.

Dr. Goeke, Rick, gave a very entertaining talk about the growing use and importance of Business Analytics/ Business Integration. Essentially, BA is the use of data, models and statistics to improve insight and make decisions based on facts and data. The exponential growth of the data that is available to companies now requires that we have ‘data warriors’ who can make sense of it. From “hippos” to “Hoosiers” (the movie) with a little Jimmy Buffett thrown in, we all enjoyed the talk.

Rick’s charts are available upon request. Contact Al Leigh ([email protected])

Join us next month where our speaker is Vicki Cotter – “What the Heck was I thinking?” The neuroscience of leadership. This event is April 5th at the Christiana Hilton.
