Fourth Annual Student Case Competition

The fourth annual Student Case Competition presented by the APICS Mid-Atlantic District was held February 8-9, 2013. The Brandywine Valley Chapter was proud to sponsor two teams from local schools - six students from the University of Delaware Lerner College of Business, Operations Management program, and five students from Widener University. Both teams competed in Harrisburg, PA, against 11 other large school undergraduate and graduate teams.

Both teams impressed the judges with their written and oral presentation skills. Students were given a case study at 8:00 pm Friday night about a Mexican auto parts supplier that was dealing with ineffective systems, troubled suppliers, employee morale issues and anything else that could go wrong with a company. The teams worked through the night to turn this company around by 10 am Saturday morning, with a 5 page paper and 7 minute oral presentation. Their innovative solutions, grasp of Operations Managements theories and systems, and overall presence impressed everyone with whom they came into contact.

We are proud to announce the University of Delaware team captured the Grand Prize in the competition, receiving a $5000 stipend to represent the Brandywine Valley Chapter and Mid-Atlantic district at the International Case Competition in Orlando, FL this September! Congratulations to both teams!
