"Sales and Operations Planning in the Time of COVID"

We are pleased once again to share a presentation from one of our Chapter members.

Sales and Operations Planning, most especially demand management are challenging in the best of times, the most normal of times, and even more so, in the most uncertain of times which characterizes the current pandemic environment we are in.

This presentation will discuss how Sartomer is managing and modifying our Sales and Operations Planning processes, especially demand management, during this time of COVID.

The objective of this presentation is to review and discuss with the group the following processes and techniques Sartomer is using in the current global environment;

- Sales and Operations Planning, Global and Regional cadence and process adjustments
- Updating S&OP models more frequently and communication projections quickly in a easy to use vehicle as supply/demand conditions change
- Business: Marketing/Sales team communication changes
- Partnering with the Finance team to ensure the right kind of communication to senior leadership
- Using ABC analysis for a measure of forecastability
- Statistical forecasting still has a place …how we use it in this volatile environment
- Modifying the rough cut capacity planning process for rapid deployment as demand changes
- Using margin analysis versus capacity availability
- Measuring current and near term demand consumption against baseline data
- Monitoring inventory levels to ensure changing operating working capital objectives are maintained
- Don’t forget the fundamentals

Speaker Biography:
     John Piechule, CPIM, CSCP, CPF
     Senior Manager Supply Chain, Arkema Inc., Sartomer Business Unit

Mr. Piechule is Senior Manager, Supply Chain at Arkema Inc.’s Sartomer Business Unit headquartered in Exton, PA. Sartomer is a producer of high quality specialty chemicals. At Sartomer, he is responsible for supply chain process optimization; sharing best practices within the Sartomer organization and other Arkema business units. He is experienced in demand management, production planning/scheduling, inventory management, quality assurance and quality control. Prior to working at Sartomer, he spent significant time in the aerospace and heavy industry business sectors. Mr. Piechule currently holds the APICS CSCP and CPIM and the IBF CPF certifications. He received his MBA and undergraduate degrees at Widener University in Chester PA.
